1. Pull out your notebook, make sure the enzyme lab from last time with the saltine cracker is completed with all the analysis questions. Then add additional notes on enzymes as you take a look at these notes on Enzymes. Make sure that you understand the 3 factors that effect enzymes and how they work.
2. Watch this video on Enzymes. Be resourceful and if you have questions, use this time to search for answers. 3. Watch this video on Photosynthesis and Cellular Respiration. It will stop you after a minute so go to this video next. 3. If you want to retake Mastery Check #1 that you did poorly on that covered Macromolecules and Atoms and Molecules, you can study for a few minutes and then do that. Otherwise you need to get started on Photosynthesis and Cellular Respiration with the white packet. Please use this time wisely. This packet is to be completed by next time so if you don't finish it today, it's homework. 4. Next time we will have a Mastery Check covering the 8 different properties of water and how they effect life on this planet. It will also cover enzymes and how they are effected by pH, temperature and concentration. Make sure you are ready for that Mastery Check. If you have any questions, ask 3 people in the class before you email and ask me.

Please read through and take notes in your notebook of the properties of water. Then you can read the Water Reading and answer the questions. Be prepared for a mastery check next time on CHNOPS and Macromolecules.
Last time we learned about atoms and molecules and the 6 major elements that make up all living things which are Carbon, Hydrogen, Nitrogen, Oxygen, Phosphorous and Sulfur. Today as we finished retakes we read about Macromolecules. The 4 major macromolecules making up living things are proteins, lipids, nucleic acids and carbohydrates. Please look through these notes and make sure you have finished the macromolecules matrix.
We reviewed Atoms and Molecules and how to draw them and make them bond. Please take a look at these notes (docs.google.com/presentation/d/12hS1AoKCLQNs3oIRG9JN8T4D5vji-W-7tuTiBGvnr-E/edit?usp=sharing) and update your notebook. We then read about the 6 major elements that make up all living things which are Carbon, Hydrogen, Nitrogen, Oxygen, Phosphorous and Sulfur. Also known as CHNOPS. Please read this information about each one and create a flash card to cover the information. Flash cards should include a drawing of the atom, a description of it including the atomic number and mass and some cool facts about it.
These are the goals for this unit and I have linked some videos that might help you go through it.
-List the major chemical elements in cells (i.e., carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, oxygen, phosphorous, sulfur, trace elements). -Identify the function of the four major macromolecules (i.e., carbohydrates, proteins, lipids, nucleic acids). -Explain how the properties of water (e.g., cohesion, adhesion, heat capacity, solvent properties) contribute to maintenance of cells and living organisms. -Explain the role of enzymes in cell chemistry. -Describe the fundamental chemistry of living cells. -Distinguish between autotrophic and heterotrophic cells. |
