Today we are learning about Protein Synthesis. This is the process of transcribing or making a copy of DNA in the form of messenger RNA or mRNA. The messenger RNA has the ability to leave the nucleus and it will travel through the cell in the search of a ribosome or rRNA. Once it finds the rRNA it will be read and transfer RNA or tRNA will translate the mRNA into an amino acid chain which will become a protein. For more information and practice problems on this, please watch the video below and then visit Canvas for what we worked on in class.

Today we are going over DNA and what it is made of. We will discuss the history of the discover of DNA and then how it relates to a molecule called mRNA. To do this we will cover over a DNA Nearpod. Please go through this at home if you are absent.
Today in class, you will be taking the Genetics test. Once you are finished, you will be working through the DNA Nearpod. If you do not finish this nearpod, please plan to go through it at home.
We will be reviewing for the next two class periods and taking the Genetics test towards the end of next week. I have posted a quizlet link on Canvas that focuses on vocabulary but you will also need to review Meiosis, reproduction types, Mendelian, Non-Mendelian and pedigrees. Canvas has so many good resources. Please use them. There may also be some questions on bioethics including GMO's, cloning, gene therapy, genetic screening and artificial selection.
We will have the socratic seminar today. Make sure that you have completed it and turned it in via Canvas. Please do not email it or submit a printed copy. I want them all in one place. For those of you that were absent or needed to miss class for some reason or another in order to make up the discussion you will be writing an opinion paper clearly stating your stance on all the of the research questions. This should be descriptive and insightful. There is no need to cite references as those should already be cited in your research packet submitted through Canvas.
B7- Go through notes on Artificial Selection (read footnote information) and then move onto below-
Today you will be working on the Bioethics Socratic Seminar found in Canvas. You will click on the rectangle indicating the assignment to make a copy of the document in order to edit it. Please make sure you do the CRAAP Test when finding your own sources. It is far too easy to find sources that are inaccurate and bias if you do not search carefully. You will also need to find at least 3 sources that are for it and 3 against it for each of the questions. The more sources you use the more perspectives and accurate information you receive. We will have our discussion on the questions in this document on either Tuesday (A day) or Wednesday (B day). If you do not have your research done you will not be able to participate fully and cannot receive full credit. All completed research packets will be turned in via Canvas. Not to Mrs. King. If you would like to print a copy off to hold in your hand during the discussion that would be great but will not be accepted as a completed assignment. Artificial Selection notes
We are working through the socratic seminar which will be done in class and turned in via Canvas. In Canvas there is a link to the practice worksheet for Pedigrees. Here is a link to notes that will help you. In Canvas, under Non-Mendelian there is a link to the worksheet we are doing in class as well as three videos, one for each type of Non-Mendelian rule breaker that will help you do the practice problems.
