Today in class, we are going to be reviewing Energy pyramids by doing the Starburst Lab. This is a visual example of how 90% of the energy is lost from one level to the next. If you are absent, please complete the notes and Starburst worksheet. Watch this great video for more information on trophic levels and energy.
Once we have completed these activities, we are doing to discuss energy conservation strategies. Visit links for information on great strategies. 1.Thermal soaring 2.Muggar crocodile Thermoregulation 3. Today in class we used the Scientific Method to complete the Heart Rate Lab. If you were absent please complete this lab at home.
Today in class we passed out the hall passes that you will use for the entire school year. Please come and get one if you were absent. We then talked about the Scientific Method and wrote the steps in order in our notebooks. Once we had completed this we talked about the difference between independent and dependent variables and defined the two terms. We practiced graphing and then we began by creating the Heart Rate Lab.
Today in class, we organized the Interactive notebook in the following way:
Science picture- inside cover All about me-1 Aha page-2 Rubric-3 Roles-4 SMART goal-5 Track my learning- Unit Ecology- 6 Table of contents-7 We then began our first unit by learning the difference between Qualitative and Quantitative observations. We labeled our first page on our table of contents as Observations. We made Oobleck and walked around outside to make observations and label them as one or the other. Next time we will review the Scientific Method and practice taking data and creating graphs. Hi there. So I update my blogs every B day. That way the information is up to date. If you have a conflict and you need it updated on an A day, please feel free to email me and request that. Today students discussed what Biology is and what it means to be in this Biology class. Students are expected to behave at the high school level and adhere to the Grizzly Guide. To be prepared for class tomorrow, please be sure to have a composition notebook specifically for Biology and not to be shared. I also request that you are always prepared with this notebook as well as a writing utensil. For the following class period I have asked students to bring a science picture to place on the front inside cover of their notebook. Next to that, we will place the All about me questionnaire that was filled out as well. The notebook will be decorated next time and have the first 8 pages set up.
Hello Parents and Students,
I look forward to meeting you soon in my Biology class! There are a couple things I would ask that you bring on the first day. A composition notebook, a writing utensil, a colored correcting pen and a picture. The composition book is going to be one of the most important things in my class. We will use it every day. It will be your journal, notes, data and visual learning process. Some of the greatest science discoveries were made by recognizing mistakes and learning from them. That’s where the correcting pen comes in. It’s meant to highlight errors so we can recognize where we’ve improved. As for the picture, it can be a couple different things. It can either be a picture you have taken over the summer, a picture of yourself, or something that reminds you of science. It’s going to be on the first page of your notebook so make sure it’s something meaningful. Mrs. King |
